Mrs Maier's Media/Technology Schoology Page

Our hours are 8:30-3:30 PM

Days 1 & 2  are Library Check Out Days.

During this time, students are expected to demonstrate respect for the media center and learn to appreciate a library media center as well as become proper stewards of books and materials. Students are encouraged to bring their books back in a timely manner, but are allowed to keep their books for 2 weeks. Kindergarten students may check out one book at a time.  First and second grade students may check out up to two items from the media center at a time.

Days 3 & 4 are Technology Days.

Students will spend time in the either the media center exploring new technology with the iPads, Smartboard, or the computer lab learning about 21st Century Media Technology and Computer skills.  Every 21st-century student should have the opportunity to learn computer science. The basics help nurture creativity and problem-solving skills, and prepare students for any future career. Since computers and tablets are now a vital part in the lives of our students and as a result, students must become comfortable with computers and iPads at the kindergarten level.   Internet safety and digital citizenship are also a strong components of the curriculum taught throughout the year.

All students will be coding this year at Chatfield as well! Coding (or computer programming) is a new type of literacy. Just as writing helps you organize your thinking and express your ideas, the same is true for coding. In the past, coding was seen as too difficult for most people. But we think coding should be for everyone, just like writing…children aren’t just learning to code, they are coding to learn.
